I have both and iPhone 2G and 3G, and this cable works for both of them. The latches into the iPhone are solid, and the USB Plug stays firmly in the machine. The retractable part of the cable has so far endured three weeks of my constantly playing with it. Thankfully, the design seems to discourage rather than encourage tangling.
Making the cable retractable really does help reduce clutter, especially for laptop users like me who leave cables around everywhere. And the price is much cheaper than you could get on a regular cable. Overall, I’m very happy with this one.
1 Stars Unreliable
I’ve had many retractable cables in the past and I some to be great and some to be unreliable.
These, unfortunately, were in the latter category.
After about a minute or two of being connected, my iphone will be forced disconnected. It may have something to do with the thin wiring used to make it retractable.
Unfortunatley, this was so painful to try to use I eventually threw it out and purchased an OEM Apple usb connector. Not retractable, but 100% reliable.
From my experience with retractable cords, I would guess that some of these will work, some won’t. I’m fairly certain a lot won’t work out of the box, but for $1.88, the company knows no one will be pay the shipping for returns or exchanges.
My advice is not to buy this unless maybe you want to pick up six at once and hope that one works perfectly.

I purchased this for my husbands Ipod. He lost his original cord and would wind up taking mine.
It does what it’s intended to do and you can’t go wrong for the price!
2 Stars Not for charging
This cable works for connecting my iPod to my computer but when I disconnect it later my battery is drained and I have to restart my iPod several times.
3 Stars Works fine, quality seems so-so
The cable works fine and is inexpensive. The plastic on the connectors seems hard and brittle - cheap feeling.
