The DS-A2x comes with an on-screen display mode (OSD) that enables you to view track lists, artists, albums, songs, genres, composers on your connected display for easy selection and navigation. If you have long lists on your iPod, you can use four page modes, Large, Medium, Small and Page, to move through the list in progressively larger steps. You’ll have absolutely no need to handle your iPod while it’s sitting in the DS-A2x as it comes with its own remote controller to control all basic playback functions. The remote controller also brings one-touch control for random shuffle playback over songs or albums, a resume function that will return to the track being played when the iPod is stopped or removed from the Dock and a repeat function for one track or all. You can also switch off the OSD to enjoy video playback via the DS-A2x’s composite video output. View photos as a slide show over the larger display of your TV or enjoy viewing your photos over you computer display. 4 Stars Unless you want to impress chics, save your money.
I bought this thinking it was going to be another great addition in my onkyo family. I have had many different onkyo products, and have never been disapointed. But I have to say, this time I kinda am. I thought I was going to be able to see the ipod screen, on my tv, for the video interface. But that unfortualy is not the case. There is all of the ipod functions displayed on the screen, but the look of the interface is terrible. No polish, no snap. But it plays music and charges the ipod. Woo big deal. For 20 buucks I could buy the charger, and the cable to hook up the ipod to my onkyo recevier. So like I stated in the title, unless you are trying to impress by showing that you are able to waste money, save it.

3 Stars Not so great for non-Onkyo AV Receivers
I purchased this product in the hopes of buying three more for all the AV units in my home. This will be the only one I will purchase. The AV units are Sony, Yamaha, Panasonic and Samsung; connectivity to say the least was unfriendly. To connect to each unit required lots of time and a different connection for each receiver. The instructions are focused on Onkyo AV receivers and I’m sure if you have ALL Onkyo product it will be much easier. I’m going to purchase from each of my AV manufacturers their specific Ipod connection even though they cost substantially more … my hopes are that by doing this all the functions advertised with work, not the case with this unit and my non-Onkyo receivers.
3 Stars Review of Onkyo DS-A2X
I ordered this product to work with my Onkyo 705 receiver and ipod. It works very well. My remote for the receiver runs the ipod dock which makes things easy. However, the on-screen display is not what I expected. I thought it would display what my ipod normally dispays on its screen. However, that is not the case. It only displays information (songs, artists, albums, etc.) in a typed format and looks more like an old “DOS” program than a windows-based program. Also, this information stays on full time when using the ipod so if you have a screen that is suspect to burn in (CRT, some plasma) you can not leave the screen up and running while listening to music.
3 Stars Performs As Advertised
The DS-A2X performs as advertised. Sound quality is very good. Connectors provided are medium quality. The picture sent to the TV is very low quality and it sends text only — no artwork. It would have been better had they provided ‘floating text’ which would eliminate the need for a screen saver. The remotre is not intuitive and somewhat awkward. The product does what Onkyo says it will do, it provides a way to play music through your stereo or A/V receiver.
