5 Stars 8 GB MP4 Player
Great price for the power, storage space of an MP3/MP4 player. The earphones are not too good, but a person can always get ahold of a nice pair of earbuds somewhere.
5 Stars Great Price and Quality. CANT BEAT THE IPOD!
I recieved my pink MP4 the day before Xmas and was excited because it was exactly how the seller described it. THe sound quality is relly great and i thnk its even better than the apple. It’s half the price of an 8gb ipod, you can’t beat that. Not to mention fast delivery.
I love the fact that it has an fm radio. Easy to upload music. I didnt have ot install any software or anything. The battery life last for about 3.5 to 4 hours in constant use. The speaker is soo loud that when my ears hurt from the earphones i just listen from the speaker.
It’s relly cute and convenient and cheap, cheap, cheap. Good quality.
1 Stars Total Waste of Time… PERIOD!
First, I knew I was NOT buying an Apple IPOD. I did not expect that quality even though it is overpriced. I did expect it to be comparable to a 2GB refurbished unit of a lesser name brand that I bought for $11.00. Big MISTAKE. The refurbished unit is leaps ahead of it!
Second, I am reminded of a line from an old Goldie Hawn movie called Protocol. Her father always told her, “… If someone sells you a Diamond for 10 cents, chances are you have a Diamond that is NOT worth a Dime….” While my quote may not be precise, the intent is clearly applicable.
Third, should you decide to go ahead and buy, check your seller’s return policy BEFORE your purchase. I bought from an honorable seller with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I received my MP3 on Monday; emailed my refund request thru Amazon’s seller contacts system Tues afternoon; had my sellers apology and intent to fully refund ALL my money including S&H that night; by Friday morning, I had the email from Amazon where they had processed a refund to my VISA. Obviously, I gave them a HIGH rating, for standing behind their business.
Lets talk about the MP3 player. On the good side, it arrived ahead of scheduled delivery in my requested color from a US Based seller of this product. Using a free “Flash Drive/Card Tester” utility I downloaded at C-Net, I was able to verify it actually had a full 8 GB of storage in about 15 minutes. So mine was not a 1 or 2 gb unit with a software hack.
Now lets discuss problems.
1. It would not hold a charge. Battery was solid Green, but it kept dying despite over 4 hours of charging.
2. The earphone port was smaller than the plug for the earphones enclosed with the unit. Thinking maybe it had to “snap” in, I tried until I almost got it stuck. The bottom white oval piece almost came out with the unit as I removed it. I tried other headsets/ units including those from my laptop and another MP3 player, none would fit. So the port hole size was the issue.
3. The language setting said English. Using Windows Media Player, I easily loaded a playlist of jazz items from my laptop. But when viewed on my laptop, all of my songs and folders were in Chinese Characters. I had no idea what they were. (So forget trying to salvage an 8 GB “flash storage drive” out if this).
4. Unlike other electronics there are no codes on the back, i.e., model, proper disposal of battery, manufacturer, etc…
5. The clock and date settings would not save when the unit was turned off. It kept reverting back to 2006. So while the unit appeared brand new, I wonder if the software, firmware, etc.. is three years old.
6. The menu wheel was just added to look like an Apple Ipod. It is just a white circular sticker with four active points. I doubt if it would survive heavy usage.
7. There is a small quad fold quick start guide. But the unit is NOT user friendly. The Menu buttons do not follow a logical progression so navigation was insane. Also the only way to get to the next song was to press the forward arrow. I could not select an Album, then songs within it. It appeared to be pre-set to play songs in order with repeat. I could not get the repeat to turn off.
8. Once within a menu say radio, I could not Navigate back to the main menu without turning the unit off. The center button worked, but I never knew when.
Different sellers include different items, mine included the USB cable and wall charger, but no CD. Other sellers don’t include the CD or wall charger. So check that too. I had read some of the negative reviews before, but ignored them because there were also positive ones. My latin is horrible but Caveat Emptor… Buyer Beware HEAVILY applies here
1 Stars Test to ensure it is really 8GB
When you receive one of these iPod knockoffs ensure that you run a test with a program called H2testw. It will test the memory on the mp3 player and tell you how much memory the player actually has. Odds are it is not 8 GB, probably 1 GB. Search google for “H2testw” and download the small program and test the memory on the mp3 player. The manufacturers in China are many times dishonest and hack the players to show up on a computer as 8 GB when in actuality they are only 1 GB.
I would not purchase one of these and if you do, buy it on eBay they are a lot cheaper. Good luck.
2 Stars Imperfect Product, Reasonable Price
Overall: This item is not an iPod. It is a lookalike MP3 player with cheap construction and poor firmware programming. The interface is not intuitive - from menu selections to the control buttons themselves. It is, in essence, a flash drive device with a built-in MP3 player, and does not offer the convenience of the other (more expensive) MP3 players on the market today.
That said, if a person gets to know how to use this device, and takes advantage of the CD of drivers it ships with, it is a good way to carry 8 Gigs of music with you for a fraction of the price of more popular devices.
The BAD:
* The product images on Amazon.com show something very similar to an iPod interface, which is not the actual firmware offered on this MP3 player. The interface is counter-intuitive, the buttons are confusing, and the menus don’t always make sense.
* The buttons don’t do what you expect them to (play/pause doesn’t always play/pause and menu doesn’t always lead to a menu).
* There is an audible click/pop at the start of, stop of, and between songs during MP3 playback.
* Horizontal images and video show up reversed, as in a mirror image. I asked my seller about this, and he referred me to some manufacturer’s websites, which had no solution to this problem. Vertical images don’t seem to have this problem.
* Construction is obviously cheap. The materials used look like and feel like cereal-box toys. The metal casing is not flush with the plastic end pieces. The buttons don’t always react, and you’ll find yourself pressing them dangerously hard.
* Charging issues: the instructions warn not to over-charge the unit. I don’t know what that means, but it seems unreasonable to build a device in these modern times without some sort of charger shutoff when finished charging. Is it going to self-destruct? I’m worried that it might break irreparably simply due to charging.
* The E-book feature is completely worthless. The screen is 16 characters wide and 8 lines tall, so you can only read 128 characters on a screen at once. It reads .txt files, and doesn’t recognize word breaks. This means the screen displays 16 characters across, and will do a line break right in the middle of a word.
The GOOD:
* Sound quality is pretty standard. A lot of hiss is present on videos due to compression, but music sounds okay.
* iTunes or other software isn’t required. Simple drag-and-drop in Windows Explorer (in Windows XP and above) is easy and doesn’t try to take over your computer or sell you stuff. (I’m obviously not a fan of iTunes or programs that require a sync.)
* Pretty cheap at $35 or so, compared to hundreds of dollars for name-brand players.
* Very light weight and very small - great for working out.
FINAL VERDICT: I got what I expected with this. It’s a cheap, sort of crappy MP3 player. It has a lot of space, but is just short of fatally flawed in terms of design and programming. Buy it if you want to save some money and are willing to give the time and frustration to read the poorly written manual and figure out how to actually make it work, then it’s a decent, cheap alternative to name brand MP3 players.
